Dr. Hewes has looked after the eyes of thousands of patients in the South Bay for 30 years. For 23 of those years, he and his wife Eva led a family-oriented private practice in San Jose. Prior to joining the Carey Vision Medical Group in 2000, Dr. Hewes was partner at the San Jose Medical Group and Silicon Valley Eye Physicians and a staff physician with the UCSF-Stanford South Bay Eye Center.  Dr. Hewes remains at the forefront of eye care as an active member of numerous prestigious professional societies.

Dr. Hewes received an appointment to the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco in 1975 and joined the Stanford University faculty in 1998. He is an attending physician at O'Connor Hospital where he is the past chair of ophthalmology, and at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. Dr. Hewes received his medical education at Northwestern University, was a resident in internal medicine at the University of Southern California Medical Center and a resident in ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco.
